1. What You Can Do with Self Service Password Reset (SSPR)
With SSPR, you can:
- Reset your forgotten password
- Unlock your account if it’s been locked due to too many failed sign‑ins
- Change your password anytime
All you need is access to your registered authentication methods (mobile phone, email, or authenticator app).
2. Before You Begin: Register for SSPR
You must register your authentication methods before you can use SSPR.
How to Register
- Go to https://aka.ms/ssprsetup
- Sign in with your Microsoft 365 account
- Follow the prompts to set up at least two authentication methods (you likely already have one), such as:
- Authenticator app
- Mobile phone (SMS or call)
- Alternate email
- Once completed, your account is ready for self‑service password reset.
Tip: Keep your authentication methods up to date. If you change your phone number, update it immediately.
3. Resetting Your Password
If you forget your password or can’t sign in:
- Go to the Microsoft sign‑in page https://aka.ms/sspr
- Enter your Microsoft 365 email address
- Complete the CAPTCHA verification
- Select “I Forgot my password”
- Choose one of your registered authentication methods
- Enter the verification code or approve the prompt
- Choose another of your registered authentication methods
- Enter the verification code or approve the prompt
- Create a new password that meets your organisation’s security requirements
Your password is now reset and ready to use.
4. Unlocking Your Account
If your account is locked due to too many incorrect password attempts:
- Go to https://aka.ms/sspr
- Enter your email address
- Verify your identity using one of your registered methods
- Select Unlock Account (if available)
- Complete the verification steps
Your account will unlock immediately.
5. Changing Your Password (When You Still Know It)
You can change your password anytime:
- Go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com
- Sign in
- Select Password
- Enter your current password and choose a new one
This is useful if you think your password has been compromised.
